چکیده

Numerous methods have been proposed to integrate real-time and non-real-time services of the timed-token medium access control (MAC) protocol. One of the key issues in tailoring the timed-token MAC protocol for real-time applications is the synchronous bandwidth allocation (SBA) problem whose objective is to meet both the protocol and deadline constraints. Several non-optimal local SBA schemes and an optimal global scheme have been proposed 1{3]. Local SBA schemes use only information available locally to each node, and are thus preferred to global schemes because of their lower network-management overhead. Unfortunately, it has been formally proved in 4] that there does not exist any optimal local SBA scheme. Chen et al. 2] proposed the only-known optimal global SBA scheme which is based on an iterative approach. However, their algorithm may not terminate theoretically. In this paper, we present an optimal global SBA scheme of polynomial-time worst-case complexity.

EMCA — An Optimal Synchronous Bandwidth Allocation Scheme for Guaranteeing Synchronous Message Deadlines with the Timed Token Protocol in an FDDI Network

We investigate the inherent timing properties of the timed token protocol which is necessary to guarantee synchronous message deadlines in a timed token ring network such as FDDI (Fibre Distributed Data Interface) where the timed token medium access control (MAC) protocol is employed. As a result, an exact upper bound, which is tighter than previously published, on the elapse time between any n...

Hard synchronous real-time communication with the time-token MAC protocol

The timely delivery of inter-task real-time messages over a communication network is the key to successfully developing distributed real-time computer systems. These systems are rapidly developed and increasingly used in many areas such as automation industry. This work concentrates on the timed-token Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol, which is one of the most suitable candidates to support ...

Guaranteeing Synchronous Message Deadlines with the Timed Token Medium Access Control Protocol

We study the problem of guaranteeing synchronous message deadlines in token ring networks where the timed token medium access control protocol is employed. Synchronous bandwidth, defined as the maximum time for which a node can transmit its synchronous messages every time it receives the token, is a key parameter in the control of synchronous message transmission. To ensure the transmission of ...
